Introduction to Somie Kast/About

Hey, welcome to Somie Kast. You probably clicked this post to actually know what this blog will be all about. Well I'm glad you did, because as the title says I will give you an over view of what you will be expecting in this blog.

For starters, my name is Maryblessing. People call me M.B., Maryb, and few call me Blessing. which ever you would like to address me I don't mind.

Why Somie Kast?

Well, to begin with, I didn't know what to name my blog. It takes me time when it comes to naming things, crazy right!  I just hope I'm not the only one though.

So, this is what happened. I remembered the nick name my Grandma calls me, Somie, and suddenly it hit me "why don't I name the blog Somie". So I came to a conclusion on Somie Kast, were Kast means nothing actually. I got the word-Kast- from my favorite YouTuber who now owns a podcast.

ABOUT S.KAST

So basically Somie Kast is about a girl who is KASTING out her life journey to becoming a doctor. She promises to be consistent in providing her experience (both the good and bad ones) of every step she makes. She hopes her lifestyle in this blog will somehow be an inspiration to others especially aspiring students who wants to walk the path of becoming a health practitioner.

My experience as an intern in the lab

On the 20th of December 2022 my mom and I went out together for me to apply as an intern. Let's reverse to days before now <<< <<< My brother and I had a discussion on this and we came to a conclusion on a particular lab. Okay that aside, I decided to meet one of my uncles who apparently studied the course that I am currently studying, which is medical laboratory science and he made mention of another lab. Now, the lab he mentioned was the one that I faced head on to get and so I applied but unfortunately I got rejected. Already looking tired and frustrated, it dawned on me the one my brother and I was talking about and just before we were about to conclude I brought it up and my mum in her tiredness said, "after this one, no more". So we went there and applied. Luckily for us we got the privilege to see the manager and we explained further, without no bombarding questions from her. She said "when can I start coming" ? At first I was lik...

How its been going for the past five months after entry.

Started school in May 2021, and now it's the 5th month and to be honest the struggle is REAL.  I didn't know that it will be like this. To be sincere it has been a rough ride and I’m just in year one (1) but faith in God and good company has been carrying me through. The study sessions, lectures, social life and prayer life is something I'm trying to place in balance because they are very crucial to my growth and general health.   Balance should always be the key for every med student. Currently I'm about to take my first semester exams. I’m 30% nervous but 70% chill. Actually this exams was meant to be taken a little bit earlier than now but due to the up's and down's of the school's system it has been finalized this september (14th to 27th). I hope to get a high GPA this semester so that by His grace it will be easier for me the next semester. Once my CGPA is all great I will be able to transfer to my desired course, Medicine and Surgery. Be sure to c...

The courses involved for year three MLS students in Nigeria? / A little token of advice!

Now this might be a boring one.  But it's for those who are interested to venture and know more about the Medical Laboratory Science field (MLS / MED. LAB). So if this is something that you'd like then let's dive in. In Nigeria, once you are in year 3 in any state or federal university.  You are going to be introduced fully to the knowledge of the basis of MedLab.  The session is divided into two; 1. First semester  2. Second semester  Each semester consist of 9 courses each with different credit loads. This may vary depending on the university.  I have decided to base my focus on the university called EBONYI STATE UNIVERSITY (EBSU) which is rated as the '2nd' best universities to study MLS in Nigeria as a whole of which I'm blessed to be in. FIRST SEMESTER... The courses are divided into Core, Auxiliary and GST Courses. They involve the following; Core Courses   MLS 311 -  Basic Chemical Pathology            ...
